Best Places to Eat in Cancun & Rivera Maya

Recommended by locals & Expats!

Is your resort food getting boring?  Looking for a special place to eat out for a special celebration or group event?  Want to experience unique and local foods?  We have some great recommendations, given by locals and expats.  (ie..expats are people living here from other countries, U.S., Canada, etc.)  If you need more help, you can contact us to help set up special dinners or venues for your special celebrations and assist with transportation needs.

Surfin Burrito.

Located in the Hotel Zone, the Surfin Burrito has two locations.  Their most visited location is located near Playa Chac Mool in the Cancun Hotel Zone, this a quaint little sidewalk eatery featuring some great burritos and many other delicious choices.  Its open 24 hours, so after hitting the clubs, this is a great spot for a late night snack.  They also deliver!  This particular spot was featured on Guy Fieri's hosted show, Diners, Drive-In's and Dives.  This is one of my personal favorite places to visit when I'm in the hotel zone.  Check out their Facebook page for more info.  https://www.facebook.com/thesurfinburrito/

Padrino's Pizza Express

Located in the upper part of the Hotel Zone, experience a great pizza and Italian dishes made by a real Italian!  Great selections and offerings, this pizza is fresh and tasty and one of the best I have had in Cancun!  Lots of options from over 20 delicious woodfired pizzas made from the finest ingredients, pastas, paninis, wines, mojitos, sangria by the glass or pitcher and much more! You can find more information on their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pg/PadrinosPizzaExpress/about/?ref=page_internal

MU Burgerhouse

This place has amazing burgers!  It's hard to find a great burger, but these are unique and delicious!  The menu is original and has tons of options, not only burgers, but many other selections.  This restaurant has a trendy setting with indoor and outdoor seating.  They serve craft beers, signature cocktails, appetizers, salads and even have a breakfast menu.  I tried the Numero Uno (No. 1) cocktail made with Hendricks, smoked rosemary, a slice of grapefruit and tonic!  The burger I tried was the ME HACES SENTIR EN EL CIELO burger.  180g. of meat, wrapped in bacon, laquered in maple syrup, with regional cheese and grilled onions.  SO delicious!  You won't regret giving this place a try.  https://www.facebook.com/pg/MUBURGERHOUSECUN/about/?ref=page_internal

El Rincon De Los Antojos

Another Guy Fieri favorite and featured on the show Diner's, Drive-Ins & Dives.  A great place to experience authentic mexican dishes.  Handmade dishes with great flavors and fresh ingredients.  One of their best are the Gorditas.  This is NOT a Taco Bell gordita, but an authentic Mexican Gordita de Chicarron Pressed.  Traditional chubby fried, stuffed with fried pork rinds, accompanied by onions, cilantro, cream and grated cheese.  The restaurant is located in Cancun proper.  You can find more information on their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/El-Rincon-De-Los-Antojos-142129719734384/

Puerto Juarez

Fish Market Marbella Rawbar & Grill

If you are in the Puerto Juarez Ferry Terminal area, this place is unique and a must for a quick bite.  You would think at first its nothing but a convience store.  BUT, if you go upstairs you will find that there is so much more!  Its a fish market, pick what you want and they will prepare the dishes for you on the spot.  And it has a wonderful view of the ocean.  Find more information on their Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/MarBellaCancun/

Kiosco Verde Marisquería

Another great find in the Puerto Juarez Ferry Terminal area.  A wonderful indoor/outdoor spot.  Good atmosphere, but even better, the wonderful food.  Try the whole fried fish, and a wonderful machete cocktail, their award-winning house cocktail.  Lots of choices, and all delicious and fresh.  A great place day or night and the service was friendly and timely.

Puerto Morelos

La Sirena

Located in the Northeast corner of the town square above another business, you will find La Sirena.  La Sirena offers an International menu inspired by Mediterranean cuisine using local ingredients.  The menu has a great selection of dishes and is moderately priced.  They offer live music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday Night. There is indoor and outdoor seating with a view of the town square, the lighthouse.  They do have free Wi-Fi. There are also lots of TV's for sports viewing.  This is one place that locals, expats and tourists love to go.  See more here. https://www.facebook.com/LaSirenaPM/

El Nicho

This tiny little place blew me away.  If you want a good place for breakfast that offers more gourmet and FRESH offerings, then this is your place.  But don't let the word gourmet fool you, its not overpriced.  Located on the south side of the town square, you will find this wonderful little place.  They have a great selection of dishes for breakfast, brunch or lunch and offer both American and Mexican dishes.  El Nicho is only open from 7:30am until 2pm.  You can find more information here. https://www.facebook.com/elnichopuertomorelos/

I Wanna Pizza

Seriously, looking for pizza?  This is a wonderful place with great gourmet pizza.  Many options and they deliver!  Only open in the evening, so its great for dinner or a later evening snack.  Located on the port side of Puerto Morelos.   https://www.facebook.com/I-Wanna-Pizza-379968638680941/

My Little Italy

This place is a wonderful Italian place right off the town square on the port side.  Tables set up in the street for a special ambiance.  Food is good and large portions for the cost.  If your looking for Italian on your day trip to Puerto Morelos or on vacation, this place is a good one!  https://www.facebook.com/mylittleitalypm/
